BURNOUT and PERFECTIONIsm

You haven’t failed. Your body is warning you that rest is non-negotiable.

Relentless ambition is a survival strategy that’s outlived its purpose.

YouR WORTH DOES NOT DEPEND ON YOUR OUTPUT.

YOU DIDN'T BURN OUT BECAUSE YOU'RE WEAK. YOU BURNED OUT BECAUSE NO ONE EVER TOLD YOU IT WAS OKAY TO REST.

You've always been the person who gets things done. You figure it out. Follow through. Keep going. Society has convinced you that exhaustion is actually dedication, so you keep pouring from an empty cup. You tell yourself you'll rest when life slows down, knowing that it never does.

But how can you say “no” to your manager? To your friends? To your parents? Saying “yes” has attracted validation and visibility. Being praised for going past your limit silently taught you that your capacity doesn’t matter. You learned that your worth depends on how much you can do for other people. So when burnout arrives – you don’t just have to rest and refill your cup. You also need to tend to the cracks that have formed.

THE WEIGHT BIPOC WOMEN CARRY DOESN'T SHOW UP IN ANY JOB DESCRIPTION. THAT DOESN’T MEAN IT ISN’T REAL.

If you’re a BIPOC woman, you grapple with a specific flavor of burnout that is rarely discussed. When no one in the classroom, office, or community looks like you, the pressure to prove yourself builds. There’s an unspoken understanding that you carry the weight of representing your community. In order to not “disgrace the race,” you’ve mastered the art of code-switching and learned to pick your battles when it comes to microaggressions. These unique mental and emotional demands chip away at even the sturdiest cups.

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD.

There’s only one person who decides if your exhaustion is valid. It’s you.

Hey! Welcome to my virtual couch. Let’s talk. This space was built for those who are exhausted from being exceptional. You don't have to explain why you need rest or apologize for putting yourself first. I won’t imply that you simply need better time management or suggest that you hold on until you’re recognized for your efforts.

As a recovering perfectionist, I know how hard it can be to unlearn this all-or-nothing approach to life, especially if you think it’s core to your success. You deserve to slow down even if it inconveniences those who benefit from your blurry boundaries. Here, you can ask for help without shame and learn how to give yourself the same grace you offer everyone else. Let’s work together to untangle your worth from your productivity and reclaim your right to rest.

CHECK ALL THAT APPLY

HOW MANY OF THESE SIGNS OF BURNOUT HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED?

Rest doesn't feel restorative anymore – it just feels like a pause before the next thing.

You either keep your ideas to yourself or over-explain them because you doubt their merit.

You’re on autopilot more than you’re present, but no one suspects how you truly feel.

You still get your work done on time, but it has lost the meaning it once had.

Your body keeps sending you signals to slow down – headaches, body aches, frequent illness. Fatigue is now your baseline.

FILLING YOUR CUP STARTS WITH GENTLY TENDING TO ANY CRACKS THAT HAVE FORMED.

Let's explore what’s possible when your cup is full rather than empty.

I'm interested. Let's chat.

WE'LL EXPLORE WHERE YOUR PERFECTIONISM CAME FROM AND WHY IT’S SO DIFFICULT TO LET IT GO.

Perfectionism often develops early in life as a survival response. Maybe it was the only reliable way to feel seen by the people who mattered most. Perhaps achievement was how you honored sacrifices your family made to give you opportunities they never had. Or maybe it was a way out of a life you were outgrowing. We'll get curious about how your perfectionism began and how it continues to shape your life.

YOU'LL EXAMINE THE DEFINITION OF SUCCESS THAT GOT YOU THIS FAR. IS IT EMPOWERING YOU TO BUILD THE LIFE YOU WANT MORE THAN IT’S HOLDING YOU BACK?

You inherit a definition of success before you’re old enough to question it. For BIPOC women, chasing perfection can be a logical response to a society that expects you to fall behind and never make it to the top. Immigrant families may view achievement as a sign of gratitude and respect. We'll figure out whose definition of success has been guiding you and what it looks like when it's built around your values.

Therapy with me is…

YOU'LL LEARN TO INTERPRET YOUR BODY'S SIGNALS AND HOW TO RESPOND TO THEM EFFECTIVELY.

Chronic stress makes itself known mentally and physically. You may be familiar with the common signs: tension headaches, chronic pain, fatigue that no amount of rest can resolve, and getting sick more often. More subtle experiences include difficulty making decisions and feeling anxious or guilty about not being "productive." We'll identify your body's unique signals and what they're trying to communicate. You’ll develop tools for responding to your body rather than overriding it.

WE'LL CONTEXTUALIZE YOUR STRUGGLES. WHAT LOOKS LIKE FAILURE IS OFTEN A LOGICAL RESPONSE TO SOCIETY’S ILLOGICAL DEMANDS.

The inner critic saying you're "not enough" didn't originate with you. Early in life, someone taught you to speak to yourself harshly — someone who rewarded productivity and disapproved of rest.

We'll explore where this voice came from and whose expectations you've been carrying. As you get to know your inner critic, you'll practice questioning it and using self-compassion to decide, perhaps for the first time, which standards and values are actually yours.

CONSIDER THIS YOUR PERMISSION SLIP:

Imagine a life where…

01 YOU HAVE REPAIRED THE CRACKS IN YOUR CUP WITH GOLD RATHER THAN SHAME.

As in the art of kintsugi, you’ve mended the cracks in your cup and integrated them as a part of your life – a part that reminds you of your resilience. Taking a step back — or even slowing down — no longer feels like a risk you can't afford to take.

You set firm boundaries and reconnect to joy. Whether it's taking yourself on a date or reading that spicy novel collecting dust on your nightstand, you stop living on everyone else's timeline.

02 YOU FEEL LIKE A WHOLE PERSON AGAIN. YOU’RE LIVING RATHER THAN SIMPLY EXISTING.

You’re no longer just a worker bee. You work-to-live rather than live-to-work. You reclaimed the parts of yourself that productivity culture made you leave behind like curiosity and creativity.

You’re discovering what a fulfilling life looks like for you. What do you prioritize when you’re not chasing achievement or guided by external expectations?

03 YOUR INNER CRITIC BECOMES YOUR ALLY.

You know the difference between your voice and the one you inherited earlier in life. You figured out how your inner critic developed in the first place and whose expectations it imposed upon you.

You now approach it with curiosity rather than letting it take the lead or resisting it. Why is it showing up now? What is it trying to communicate? When you respond to your inner critic with compassion and mindfulness, you gain insight into your own unmet needs.

HEALING ISN'T A RETURN TO PERFECTION. IT'S A RELEASE FROM IT.

Change is possible.
Let's redefine success.
